Family Medicine Question & Answer

Family medicine is a medical specialty that offers primary care to your entire ohana. The providers focus on developing lasting relationships with their patients and families. These relationships help foster a trusting patient-provider relationship that makes patients feel more comfortable sharing their health concerns and needs, which ultimately leads to better overall care.

Our physicians are all board-certified family medicine physicians who underwent years of training after medical school to understand the unique health needs of children, adults, and seniors. Our nurse practitioner and physician assistant are also board-certified and trained in the broad spectrum of family medicine. This training helps our providers to be able to provide the comprehensive care needed to manage the health of your entire family. We utilize our biological, clinical, and behavioral training to develop well-rounded treatment plans that focus on your health, illness prevention, and wellness.

At their core, our providers value developing a partnership with our patients, built upon integrity and respect. When you come to the office for an evaluation, you can expect a comprehensive evaluation focused on you and your specific health needs and goals, whether it’s time for your annual women’s health exam or you’re seeking treatment for unexpected symptoms.

During your evaluation, our providers will review your medical history and specific health concerns, and conduct a physical exam when applicable. They may also request additional tests and screenings to confirm or rule out a disease or illness.

Our team values education and partnership, and will present your treatment options so that together you can develop a plan that works for you.

Unlike other medical specialties, family medicine providers receive specialized training in all organ systems and can manage most chronic health conditions, as well as advise on prevention strategies. Examples are:

  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Musculoskeletal issues
  • Depression
  • Stress management
  • Acne and other common skin conditions
  • Metabolic syndrome, w/ focus on lifestyle choices and plant-based nutrition, among other interventions
  • Gynecology issues

Our providers also have surgical training and offers many in-office procedures, including abnormal mole removal, freezing for conditions such as warts, steroid injections, drainage of skin abscesses, and laceration repair.

Our providers have gynecologic training and offer many in-office GYN procedures such as pap smears, colposcopy, IUD and Nexplanon insertion, endometrial biopsies, and lactation consultation.

We can also perform commonly needed office tests such as EKG.

Lastly, if there is a health care need that lies outside of our scope, we will assist you with a referral to a specialist that can address that need.
